The job of Agent in France
Poignée de main d'affaires
Joueurs de basketball

Born from the professionalization of sporting competitions and the development of spectacle sport, this profession is governed by articles L 222-7 and following of the Sport Code, which fix its definition, the quality of the people capable of exercising it, the rate of remuneration of the sports agent as well as the terms of access to the exercise of the activity of sports agent.

According to the legal definition, a sports agent exercises "the activity consisting in bringing together, against remuneration, the parties interested in the conclusion of a contract either relating to the remunerated exercise of a sporting or training activity, or which provides for the conclusion of an employment contract for the remunerated exercise of a sporting or training activity ”.

To exercise, sports agents must be holders of a sports agent license. The examination to obtain the sports agent license is the subject of two sessions organized successively by the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) and the sports federation concerned (French basketball federation).

In practice, however, their field of intervention is much broader. Sports agents guide athletes in their short, medium and long term career strategy, help them in the management of their communication, their image and their heritage and, even for some, support them in the preparation of their “after "career" of professional sportsman.

The job of sports agent therefore involves having skills in several areas, such as sports, marketing, law, management and public relations.
